KELLEY ALLEN

Welcome to my online music classroom.  At this time we are unable to see each other face to face, but with the links I have provided, you will still be able to learn about music and hopefully learn something new that you can share with us when we return.  Please don’t hesitate to call and ask questions about my music lessons.  I will help as much as I am able.

Be sure to go to your Google Classroom as I will be posting challenges and trivia questions!

For Our PK-2nd grade friends, check out the Barefoot Books link under the Educational Opportunities tab. If the songs are too fast, you can change the playback speed by clicking on the settings at the bottom of each video.

Skills that can be learned are as follows:

  • sequencing
  • same, different
  • fast, slow – dance to the music; create movements to go along with the song
  • steady beat, rhythm  – tap along with the beat; use a pan and spoon to march around while tapping to the beat

2nd Grade –

  • Go into the Rhythm Reading link and practice reading rhythms.  Get a shoe and use your bed as a drum while you practice each exercise.  You know the procedure and do it just like we do in class.
  • Barefoot Books
  • Choonbaboon – click the link and have fun.  Just like we do in class.
  • Pajama Party – Keep practicing our songs just in case so we don’t have to work so hard when we get back.

Skills that can be learned are as follows:

  • sequencing
  • same, different
  • fast, slow – dance to the music; create movements to go along with the song
  • steady beat, rhythm  – tap along with the beat; use a pan and spoon to march around while tapping to the beat
  • Recognizing and reading rhythms
  • Musical styles
  • Good vocal singing

For 3rd – 5th Grade Students ---

  • You can continue to practice your recorder.  Go to the Educational Opportunities Tab at the left and select Recorder.  There you find the link to my VMM Playlist.  You know how to adjust playback speed and you know the procedure for learning the songs.  Just like we do in class.  Take care to check the recorder on the right of the screen for any new notes.
  • Before you begin playing, go into the Rhythm Reading link to warm up and work on reading those tough rhythms.  You know the procedures.  Just like we do in class.
  • Work on your singing skills by visiting the Choonbaboon link.  There are the songs that you love to sing.  Keep your singing chops up.  No bad singing and running Mom and the dog out of the house with their fingers in their ears!  Good singing!

Skills that can be learned are as follows:

  • Reading rhythms
  • Reading music notation
  • Playing the recorder using good fingerings and good sounds (squeaking...check fingers and are you blowing too hard?)
  • Recognizing different styles of music.
